The weather is finally heating up and soon you might have to change over to your air conditioner. Along with setting up your annual air conditioner service with the team at Dave's Diversified Services, there are some other tasks you can do to stay comfy and save money this season.
During the in-between season in Front Royal, those far too few spring temperatures, you likely use ceiling fans to keep cool. Did you know that running your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner could not only keep you more cozy during the warmer days, but also save you on your bills? In order to do that you have to be sure you’re utilizing ceiling fans and your air conditioning as you should be. Here’s a couple things to remember:
Raise Your Thermostat
This is where the cost savings can have the chance to come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your expenses. Raising your thermostat by even a couple degrees, in addition to utilizing your ceiling fan, shouldn’t change your comfort level that much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lessening the period of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.
Adjust Air Direction
Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to adjust depending on the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to make sure the air is blowing down. You can stand underneath the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, adjust the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually lower the temperature of the air, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than what the thermostat says.
Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There
Treat your ceiling fan like you would lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to take in the wind chill that a fan provides you’re wasting energy by using your fan. Keep in mind, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
