Comfort Maximized From New Plants to Furnace Service

December 11, 2015

With colder weather settled in and days that seem like there’s hardly any sunshine, it can be difficult to always feel like your home is a comfy place to be. That goes far beyond completing annual furnace service too, because there are various things you can do to help make your home feel comfortable even when your furnace is running at its best.

Here are a couple that we find particularly helpful here in Front Royal:

  • Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, can mean a great deal of air is escaping your home. And, the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is heading outside too. There are a variety of fixes that can help you close those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are relatively basic fixes for homeowners to handle themselves.
  • Swap your furnace filter. This is one of the most crucial things you can do to not only improve your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your energy costs. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can handle it yourself. It’s typically recommended to change your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some could last even longer.
  • Get plants. Indoor plants can leave you with a number of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually appealing, they can likely boost your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a number of pollutants that are emitted from a host of common household cleaners, paints and other products.
  • Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already handling, but it never hurts to receive a reminder. Having furnace service performed annually helps make sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be addressed so your comfort isn’t compromised.

It doesn’t have to feel overwhelming to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 540-636-3396 to talk about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
